South Ossetia Children Aid - charity concert in Washington, D.C. |
Due to the increasing violence in the republic of South Ossetia, hundreds of children were evacuated across the boarder to Russia. Stavropol office of the Russian Children’s fund welcomed over 200 children from South Ossetia to its region. The fund was seeking support in collecting economic and humanitarian support to provide these children with shelter and basic necessities. On August 23, 2008 the Russian Cultural Center of Washington, D.C. in collaboration with ZARYA (The Association of Russian Youth Abroad) held a charity concert to support MISHKA Foundation's effort to raise money for the children of South Ossetia. The guests enjoyed amazing music by the Maryland-based band Chernika and the Russian rock-musician, Mihail Bashakov. More than $900 was raised at this event through collective efforts of its organizers and attendees. 100% of all the PROCEEDS went to the children of South Ossetia.
